Completed Projects in the Washougal River

Little Washougal Riparian Restoration
This project was a riparian improvement and outreach project funded by the Clark County Clean Water Restoration Fund. The goal was to work with local landowners to remove invasive species and plant native trees and shrubs along the Little Washougal to help mitigate the impacts of stormwater runoff. In partnership with the Watershed Alliance, we installed thousands of native plants along the river! Volunteers were an important part of completing work at this site.
Lower Washougal Phase 1
The Lower Washougal River restoration project addressed degraded floodplain conditions in the lower mile of the watershed, directly benefiting ESA-listed chum and Chinook salmon, as well as coho, sea-run cutthroat, and steelhead.
Constructed two riffles to restore natural floodplain processes.
-
Added large woody debris and boulders to improve rearing habitat.
-
Rehabilitated three abandoned gravel quarries into ten acres of off-channel habitat.
Using natural materials left from past mining, this cost-effective project restored critical salmon habitat on property owned by the City of Camas and Georgia-Pacific.
