Save Larch Mountain Correctional Work Camp

Closing Larch Mountain will have devastating effects on our economy and community:

·        SW Washington's
14.3% unemployment rate (State highest) will be exacerbated by the decision to close LCC

·        $50 million dollars worth of facility and fire suppression infrastructure will be lost

·        114 employees will lose their jobs with little alternative except unemployment benefits

·        480 inmates, half of whom are from SWWA, will be forcibly re-located to Puget Sound

·        Public safety will be jeopardized by loss of DNR certified forest fire fighters based at LCC

·        Public and private timber value will be at high risk from chronic forest fire

·        Recreational opportunities will be reduced due to seasonal fire risk

·        Recreational infrastructure will be lost due to lack of maintenance provided by LCC crews

·        Environmental restoration activity will be inhibited by lack of labor provided by LCC crews

·        Environmental and recreational grant dollars will be lost
